In order to ensure a complete and accurate representation of United States residents, it was necessary for the U.S. Census Bureau to count everyone. The Census Bureau initiated the largest civic outreach and awareness campaign in U.S. history for the 2010 Census. This campaign included both local and national paid advertising spots, PSAs, new websites in both English and Spanish, social networking sites and a national road tour, which was a cross-country interactive experience designed to increase awareness and encourage participation. The 13 vehicles in the "Portrait of America Road Tour" stopped and exhibited at more than 800 events nationwide.
