As of 2008, there were 113.1 million occupied households in the United States with the average household size of 2.6 people. Families made up about 66 percent of the households in the United States. The family unit makes up a large number of the population of the United States and it's important that everyone living within one household, including all children and elderly, were counted for the 2010 census. The 2010 Census form is one of the shortest in history and consisted of ten simple questions such as name, age and race.(2008 ACS 1-year)
