- What:
- U.S. Census Bureau Director Steve H. Murdock will visit the Anchorage Local Census Office and receive an update on preparations for the upcoming decennial census headcount. The recently opened office serves as Alaska's operational hub for all 2010 Census activities. Office staff will also be responsible for recruiting and hiring hundreds of workers statewide to count Alaska's population, which includes 201 Alaska Native villages and a projected population of almost 700,000 by 2010. The Census Bureau is now hiring throughout Alaska with most jobs paying from $13.25 to $17.50 an hour. Murdock will be available for media interviews and will also discuss the upcoming 2010 Census and the work conducted throughout the decade to ensure there is an accurate and complete count in Alaska.
