Lead Nation's Counties In Adding Jobs Between 1994 and 1995, Census Bureau Reports Los Angeles County, Calif. had a net gain of 102,711 employees between 1994 and 1995, the most of any county in the country, followed by Harris County, Texas, up 89,386 jobs, and Maricopa County, Ariz., which added 76,056 jobs, according to data released today by the Commerce Department's Census Bureau. "These are the most recent business data for the nation's 3,200 counties," said Census Bureau analyst Dennis Wagner. "The data are useful to state and local planners and private businesses for charting growth. Even those looking for employment opportunities can benefit from these data." Data from 1995 County Business Patterns (U.S. Summary), CBP-95-1, include business establishments, employment and payroll, by detailed industry in nine major economic divisions: Agriculture services, forestry and fishing Wholesale trade Mining Retail trade Construction Finance, insurance and real estate Manufacturing Services Transportation and public utilities Data in this report come from Census Bureau files or administrative records of other federal agencies. Quality assurance procedures were applied to all phases of collection, processing and tabulation to minimize errors. However, the data are still subject to error from miscoding; estimation for missing or misreported data; and difficulties in identifying every unit that should be included in this report.
