Changes in the revenues and expenses of the trucking industry between 1995 and 1996 included: - Motor carrier revenue increased 6 percent to $164 billion. - Long-distance trucking revenue was up 6 percent and accounted for 68 percent of all for-hire motor carrier revenue. - Local trucking revenue rose 7 percent to $52 billion. - Total industry expenses were up 7 percent to $163 billion. Changes in the revenues and expenses of the warehousing industry between 1995 and 1996 included: - Public warehousing and storage revenue was $11 billion in 1996, an increase of 5 percent over 1995. - General warehousing and storage revenue increased 6 percent to $6.5 billion and represented 57 percent of all public warehousing and storage revenue in 1996. - Refrigerated warehousing revenue in 1996 was $2 billion, which was 19 percent of all public warehousing and storage revenue. - Total industry operating expenses in 1996 were up 6 percent to $9 billion. The estimates from the 1996 Transportation Annual Survey are subject to sampling and nonsampling error. Sources of nonsampling error include errors of response, nonreporting and coverage.
