                **CENSUS BUREAU MEDIA ADVISORY**

  The Census Bureau is making available information on the components of
change for state population estimates from 1990 to 1997. The state
estimates were released on December 31, 1997. 

  The Internet address for the new data is: 
http://www.census.gov/population/www/estimates/statepop.html. The
data also may be obtained by calling the Public Information Office. 

  The demographic components of population change consist of natural
change and net migration. Natural change is defined as births minus
deaths. Net migration is the difference between all forms of migration
into and out of an area.
