              Census Bureau Job Fair Seeks Computer Specialists,
                     Other Professionals for 400 Positions

  The Commerce Department's Census Bureau said today that it will hold a
job fair in January to recruit computer specialists, mathematical
statisticians, analysts and statisticians, as well as other skilled
professionals for positions at its Suitland, Md., headquarters. It expects
to hire 400 people. 
 
  "The Census Bureau needs professionals with the best technical skills to
help us meet the special challenges posed by Census 2000, the Economic
Census and our many surveys," said Census Bureau Director Kenneth Prewitt.
"In return, we believe that working on these and other programs at the
Census Bureau offers professionals an excellent opportunity for career
advancement." 

  The beginning salary range is $27,508 to $63,436. The positions call for
a college degree or relevant professional experience. Grade and salary
will be commensurate with education and experience. U.S. citizenship is
required.

an appointment during the job fair.
