Census Bureau Estimates Population of Insular Areas
The Commerce Department's Census Bureau today released 1999 population estimates
for the insular areas of the United States, which comprise Guam, the U.S.
Virgin Islands, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and
American Samoa.
The estimates as of July 1, 1999, are:

American Samoa . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 63,781
The Census Bureau's estimates are based on the latest available data on
births, deaths, and net migration (immigration minus emigration). In
addition to the 1999 data, population estimates and their components
(births, deaths, and net migration) for every year from 1990 through 1998
also are available on the Internet.
