HERMANN HABERMANN
Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer, U.S. Census Bureau
In 2002, Hermann Habermann accepted the position of deputy director and chief operating officer of the U.S. Census Bureau. Previously, he was the director of the U.N. Statistics Division from 1994 until his retirement from that post in 2002. Prior to that, he served 10 years at the U.S. Office of Management and Budget in a number of roles, including chief statistician, deputy assistant director for Management and deputy associate director for Budget. He began his career at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, where he served from 1970-1984, in a career leading to his appointment as director of Computer Sciences and Telecommunications. Habermann earned his doctorate in statistics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a fellow of the American Statistical Association, a past member of the Committee on National Statistics of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, a fellow of the U.S. National Academy of Public Administration and an elected member of the International Statistical Institute.
