Charles Nelson is the assistant division chief for Income,
Poverty and Health Statistics in the Housing and Household Economic Statistics
Division of the U.S. Census Bureau. He is the former chief of the Census
Bureau’s Income Statistics Branch. In his 28 years as a Census Bureau
analyst, Nelson has authored numerous Census Bureau reports and research
papers on such subjects as the characteristics of households receiving noncash
benefits; after-tax income; pension coverage and retirement income; health
insurance coverage; and the effect of taxes, government transfers and noncash
benefits on the distribution of income and prevalence of poverty.
