JAMES T. CHRISTY
Regional Director
James T. Christy received a Bachelor of Science in mathematics
from Northwest Nazarene University in 1987 and began his career with the
Census Bureau that same year, as mathematical statistician in the Field Division.
He served as a program liaison for numerous surveys in the Financial Surveys
Branch.
In 1989, he moved to the Denver regional office as a supervisory survey statistician,
where he supervised the data collection for a number of one-time and ongoing
surveys. In 1990, he was the manager for the Denver region’s census
post-enumeration survey and in 1993, he served as a Denver regional office
computer specialist. As a program coordinator in 1995, he directed a broad
range of surveys and was involved in the 1995 Special Census of Maricopa
County, Ariz. In 1997, he became an assistant regional census manager for
Census 2000. In this capacity, he was responsible for local census offices
in Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, Colorado and Arizona. He also directed
the administrative and automation sections.
He transferred to the Kansas City regional office in 2001 and served as program
coordinator for the partnership and data services program, geographic programs
and a number of surveys.
Christy currently serves as the regional director for the Los Angeles regional
census office.
