                   **CENSUS BUREAU MEDIA ADVISORY**

     Census Bureau Director to Brief Media on Release of Major Survey

   What:  Census Bureau Director C. Louis Kincannon will brief reporters 
          on the release of 2001 Supplementary Survey data on the United 
          States, Texas and five areas in Texas with populations of 1 
          million or more.  The data include changes in travel time to 
          work, household income, child poverty and home values. This 
          survey is a forerunner of the nationwide American Community 
          Survey, which will replace the census long form by 2010.

   When:  Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at 10 a.m.

   Who:   C. Louis Kincannon, director of the U.S. Census Bureau 
          Steve Murdock, Texas state demographer, Texas A&M University
