**CENSUS BUREAU PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT**
Steering Committee Report Available;
Recommends No Adjustment
The acting director of the U.S. Census Bureau, William G. Barron Jr.,
today released the findings and recommendations of the Executive Steering
Committee for Accuracy and Coverage Evaluation Policy (ESCAP).
The ESCAP, a 12-member group of career Census Bureau professionals,
determined that they could not conclude that the data for legislative
redistricting collected during Census 2000 would be improved by adjustment
through the statistical method known as sampling. Pursuant to Federal
Register Notice 15 CFR, Part 101, the ESCAP prepared a written report in
support of its recommendation which is available on the Internet at
http://www.census.gov/dmd/www/EscapRep.html.
