            Census Bureau Director Will Highlight Growth
                 of Nation's Hispanic Population
                                
       Census Bureau to Release National Population Estimates 
                   by Race and Hispanic Origin

What:     At the League of United Latin American Citizens National 
          Convention, U.S. Census Bureau Director Louis Kincannon will 
          release new estimates of the population by race and Hispanic 
          origin, which show a substantial increase in the number of the 
          nation's Hispanics. Kincannon also will release a new report on 
          socioeconomic characteristics of the Hispanic population. Topics 
          include age, marital status, family type and size, education, 
          income, poverty and housing.
