Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients

The federal SSI program provides monthly cash assistance to low-income elderly persons and to low-income disabled persons. The Social Security Administration tabulates various measures of SSI participation for states. After the number of recipients is tabulated, we use the estimates as predictor variables in a model to estimate the number in poverty in states.
