STRATEGY ONE: BUILD PARTNERSHIPS AT
EVERY STAGE OF THE PROCESS

Partnerships with state, local, and tribal governments

These governments know their local conditions and circumstances better than the Census Bureau. They can help us correct our maps and address lists, and tell us where to put unaddressed questionnaires, called "Be Counted" forms, in locations where people will find them. They also can alert us to problems and advise us of opportunities to publicize Census 2000. The law now allows us to share our address lists and related information--while maintaining their confidentiality--with these governments and get their input.
