Minority, Women, and Veteran-Owned Businesses

As a part of the economic census, the Survey of Business Owners (SBO) provides the only comprehensive information on selected economic and demographic characteristics for businesses and business owners by gender, ethnicity, race, and veteran status by:

  • kind of business,
  • national, state, and substate regional levels, and
  • size of firm.

Statistics include:

  • number of firms,
  • sales and receipts,
  • number of employees, and
  • annual payroll.

These data are used to evaluate the extent and growth of business ownership by women, minorities, and veterans.
