Workers and Employment

top manufacturing employment industries for 2007

A key statistic from the economic census is the number of paid employees for each industry.

These are paid full and part-time employees who (for all sectors except Construction and Manufacturing) were on the payroll during the pay period including March 12. Leased employees are included for several sectors; see the full definition.

Nonemployer Statistics has data for over 20 million U.S. businesses that do not have paid employees.
