1. This video will show you a simple way to find business data using American FactFinder.
2. To begin, open the Census Bureau home page at www.census.gov.
3. In the left hand column, click the American FactFinder link.
4. The American FactFinder page displays.
5. To find business data, scroll down to “Economic Census” located in the middle column.
6. Next click on “get data”.
7. The Economic Census page displays.
8. The Economic Census page contains 2002 and 1997 data. The 2007 data will be added starting March 2009. We’ll use the 2002 Economic Census as our example of how to find data.
9. Scroll down to see Quick Reports and Thematic Maps.
10. Quick Reports have key data items for your geography or industry of interest.
11. Thematic maps display economic data on a color-coded map.
12. To locate information about a particular geographic area, industry, or data item (such as employment, sales or payroll), scroll down and click on “Search for data sets”.
13. To locate statistics for all economic sectors at the U.S. and state levels, click on “Core Business Statistics”.
14. To locate business data from annual economic surveys, scroll down to “Related Annual Economic Surveys” and click on a survey.
