- This video will show you how to locate economic census data using the “Search for data sets” tool in American FactFinder.
- To begin, open the Census Bureau home page at http://www.census.gov/
- In the left hand column, click the American FactFinder link.
- The American FactFinder page displays.
- To find business data, scroll down to “Economic Census” located in the middle column.
- Next click on “get data”.
- The Economic Census page displays.
- Scroll down and click on “Search for data sets”.
- The Select an Economic Data Set page displays.
- To search for data by industry, click the “Industry or Product” box.
- The Filter Data Sets by Industry or Product page displays.
- You can search for economic data by industry or by selecting an economic sector.
- If you are unsure of the economic sector, enter the name of the industry in the “Search for an industry” text box and click the Search button.
- For example, let’s enter “used merchandise” in the text box.
- Next, select the “Use synonyms” check box and click the Search button.
- The Filter Data Sets by Industry or Product page displays with a list of available industries.
- Select “4533: Used merchandise stores” from the Select an industry list and click OK.
- A list of data sets displays.
- Click the “EC0700A1: Economy-Wide Key Statistics: 2007” link to review the data.
- The data set, filtered for used merchandise stores data, displays.
