  1. This video will show you how to locate economic census data using the “Search for data sets” tool in American FactFinder.
  2. To begin, open the Census Bureau home page at http://www.census.gov/
  3. In the left hand column, click the American FactFinder link.
  4. The American FactFinder page displays.
  5. To find business data, scroll down to “Economic Census” located in the middle column.
  6. Next click on “get data”.
  7. The Economic Census page displays.
  8. Scroll down and click on “Search for data sets”.
  9. The Select an Economic Data Set page displays.
  10. To search for data by industry, click the “Industry or Product” box.
  11. The Filter Data Sets by Industry or Product page displays.
  12. You can search for economic data by industry or by selecting an economic sector.
  13. If you are unsure of the economic sector, enter the name of the industry in the “Search for an industry” text box and click the Search button.
  14. For example, let’s enter “used merchandise” in the text box.
  15. Next, select the “Use synonyms” check box and click the Search button.
  16. The Filter Data Sets by Industry or Product page displays with a list of available industries.
  17. Select “4533: Used merchandise stores” from the Select an industry list and click OK.
  18. A list of data sets displays.
  19. Click the “EC0700A1: Economy-Wide Key Statistics: 2007” link to review the data.
  20. The data set, filtered for used merchandise stores data, displays.
