- This video will show you how to locate and filter economic census data by industry, using the "Filter Rows" tool in American FactFinder.
- To begin, navigate to the Economic Census page on American FactFinder.
- If you need additional assistance locating American FactFinder, please refer to Video 1: Finding Business Data using American FactFinder.
- For this example, click Economy-Wide Key Statistics.
- The Economy-Wide Key Statistics page displays.
- To select the data for the industry or industries you are interested in, click Filter Rows.
- The Filter Rows drop-down menu displays.
- Select ‘2007 NAICS’ from the ‘by Industry’ drop-down menu.
- The Filter Rows by Industry page displays.
- If you are unsure of the NAICS code for the industry, you can locate it using the ‘Search for an industry’ search box.
- If you know the NAICS code for the industry, you can select it using the ‘Select a sector’ drop-down menu.
- For this example, we’ll select ‘44-45: Retail Trade’ from the ‘Select a sector’ drop-down menu.
- Next, select ‘447: Gasoline stations’ from the ‘Select a sub-sector’ drop-down menu.
- Next, select ‘447: Gasoline stations’ from the ‘Select an industry’ selection list and click Add.
- To view the data for this industry, click the Show Result box.
- The data set, filtered for gasoline stations, displays.
- To see the complete data set, select ‘Reset Filters’ from the ‘Filter Rows’ drop-down menu.
- The complete data set displays.
