The universe for all files is not available until the release of the Company Summary publication. The 1987 universe was 3,878,866 companies, with the exception of table one. ES9201 (table 1) contains summary data for the entire business universe and, in 1987, this was 15,622,695 companies. =>SUBJECT-MATTER DESCRIPTION Company-level data. These files present summary data on the industrial classification and size structure of all firms in the economic censuses and their establishments, including auxiliaries, controlled by company. Auxliary data includes type of business function and various expenditure data. =>GEOGRAPHIC COVERAGE Data are provided at the National (U.S.) level for all tables with the exception of file ES92S02, which includes state-level employment and receipts breakouts. =>INDUSTRY CLASSIFICATION The 1992 Enterprise Statistics covers up to 218 industries as defined in the 1987 Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Manual. (See "Reference Materials" below.) This includes firms classified in nine industry divisions (sectors), excluding agriculture, forestry, and fishing, as well as, public administration.
