1992 CENSUS OF MINERAL INDUSTRIES FINAL INDUSTRY SERIES Abstract =>CITATION Census of Mineral Industries on CD-ROM, 1992: Industry Series / prepared by the Bureau of the Census. Washington: The Bureau [producer and distributor], 1993. =>TYPE OF FILE Summary statistics =>UNIVERSE DESCRIPTION The universe of these files is all establishments primarily engaged in mining. This universe includes all establishments classified in the mining Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Codes 1011 through 1499. Both operating establishments and auxiliary establishments are included in all files. =>SUBJECT-MATTER DESCRIPTION These data are exactly the same as are shown in the printed 1992 Census of Minerals Industries Final Industry Series reports. The Industry series reports present statistics on establishments primarily engaged in mining in twelve industry reports providing data for related groups of the 31 4-digit industries. The data from these publications are presented in the nine files discussed below. INDUSTRY (establishment-based) STATISTICS are featured in files NC92F1 through NC92F5. These files contain data on the number of establishments, employment, payroll, value of shipments, value added, capital expenditures, and other statistics for establishments, classified by the 4-digit SIC in which they are primarily engaged. To a lesser extent, these data are also classified by State, employment-size class, and year. PRODUCT STATISTICS are featured in files NC92F6A and NC92F6B. File NC92F6A contains data on the value of product shipments by 4-, 5-, and 7-digit product code, and quantity of production and shipments and number of companies with shipments of $100,000 for selected codes. File NC92F6B contains data on product class shipments by State. MATERIALS AND FUELS CONSUMED BY KIND are featured in file NC92F7. The file includes data on the delivered cost and quantity of selected materials and fuels consumed by 4-digit SIC. Data files NC92F1, NC92F6A, and NC92F7 each have separate footnote files associated with them. =>GEOGRAPHIC COVERAGE With the exception of files NC92F2 (Industry Statistics by State) and NC92F6B (Product Statistics by State), these files provide data only at the U.S. level. For data for states, metropolitan areas, counties and places, see the Geographic Area Series files. =>SOFTWARE ACCESS EXTRACT - This software system, included on this CD-ROM, provides access to every data item discussed in the Technical Description section of this abstract. GO92 - This software system, also included on this CD-ROM, provides a more "user-friendly" access to selected statistics from the economic censuses. These include the Number of Establishments, Total Number of Employees, and Total Value of Industry Shipments. The data is shown at the U.S. level for file NC92F1.dbf and at the U.S. and State level for file NC92F2. =>RELEASE SCHEDULE The data from the Final Industry Series publications for Minerals Industries are released on a flow basis by Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code. For a complete listing of which SIC codes are included on this disc, see WHAT'S NEW on the DocView Main Menu. =>RELATED DATA FILES Census of Mineral Industries, 1992: Preliminary Industry & Summary Series. Includes preliminary versions of files NC92F1 (MNC92P1), NC92F6A (MNC92P2), and NC92F7 (MNC92P3). Preliminary Summary Report file NC92PSUM gives mining industry totals by 2-, 3-, and 4-digit SIC for the U.S., and for All Minerals Industries by state. Preliminary files should only be used for SICs not yet published in Final form. Census of Mineral Industries, 1992: Geographic Area Series. Provides selected general statistics shown in the Industry Series displayed for the U.S., states, and counties. Census of Mineral Industries, 1992: Subject Series: General Summary. Provides a consolidated version of selected data presented in the Final Industry Series, as well as totals for All Minerals Industries, and for 2- and 3-digit SIC codes. This data supersedes the Final Industry Series statistics. =>FILE CHARACTERISTICS File Structure: dBASE III+ Most files also have dBASE ".NDX" index files and one or more label files that can be linked to them (e.g., with SIC titles). =>- NC92F1 Historical General Statistics 1.
