Washington: The Bureau [producer and distributor], 1996. =>TYPE OF FILE Summary statistics =>UNIVERSE DESCRIPTION The universe of these files is establishments primarily engaged in mining. This universe includes all establishments classified in the mining Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes 1011 through 1499. Both operating establishments and auxiliary establishments are included in all files. =>SUBJECT-MATTER DESCRIPTION These data are exactly the same as shown in tables 1 through 5 of the printed Geographic Area Series reports, with the exception of table 2b which is not shown. In addition, for 1992, data from table 6 are presented in these files; for 1987, these data were not presented. =>GEOGRAPHIC COVERAGE Data are provided by industry level for the following geographic areas based upon their employment size: - Data by Total for All Minerals Industries by State for all employment levels - Data by 2-, 3-, and 4-digit Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Code for states with 100 or more mining employees. - Data by 2- and 3-digit SIC Code by Type of Operation for states for all employment levels. - Data by 2- and 3-digit SIC Code by state and county for all employment levels. - Data by 2-digit SIC Code by state, county, and employment size for all employment levels. =>SOFTWARE ACCESS In addition to the EXTRACT software, which access all of these data, the GO92 software provide more "user-friendly" displays of selected statistics from these files. These include the Number of Establishments, Total Number of Employees, and Total Value of Shipments. GO92 allows the user to select the geographic area, and shows the data by SIC code. =>RELEASE SCHEDULE The data from the Geographic Area Series publications for Mining are released on a flow basis by groups of states (divisions), to be included on CD-ROMs 1f through 1j. Provides more detailed statistics about minerals industries at the national level. Statistics on products produced by state are also included. Census of Mineral Industries, 1987 and 1982: Geographic Area Series. Format is generally the same as for 1992 data presented in file NC92A1; data from the other files was not included on the 1987 CD-ROM. =>FILE CHARACTERISTICS File Structure: dBASE III+ The file also has several dBASE ".NDX" index files and one or more label files that can be linked to them (e.g., with SIC titles). =>- NC92A1 General Statistics for States and Counties 1. File sequence: State records, followed by records for each county. States are sequenced alphabetically, with counties appearing in alphabetic sequence within each state. Within each geographic area, SIC's appear in numeric sequence, and for data at the All Minerals Industries Total level, data for 1992, 1987, 1982, and 1977 appear in descending sequence. 2.
