Product Classification System

Industry experts: For the first time ever , we are creating a Product Classification System . This classification system will be used to coordinate the collection, tabulation, and analysis of output and price data for products.  The project is being implemented in two phases: Phase 1 (products of selected service sectors.) and Phase 2 (products of all goods and services sectors.)   For more details, see the Federal Register Notice and Discussion Paper, in which we have outlined a working concept for what is a service "product."

Now, we are ready to grapple with the products of four NAICS service sectors:

  • Information (sector 51);
  • Finance and Insurance (sector 52) except Insurance (subsector 524);
  • Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services (sector 54); and
  • Administrative and Support, Waste Management and Remediation Services (sector 56).

Please tell us -- if you have knowledge of products in the industries of these service sectors and you wish to advise , or you can help us identify and recruit experts on the industries in these sectors, or you wish to make a detailed proposal.

Keep me informed.

I want to participate.
