North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes are designed to classify individual business locations, i.e., a plant, a store, a farm, not individuals or occupations.

The Immigration and Naturalization Service has informed the Census Bureau that the NAICS code they are requesting on form I-129W should be for the business seeking to classify an alien as an H-1B nonimmigrant worker, not for the alien.

Example: An elementary school seeks a NAICS code for an alien who is a teacher as an H-1B nonimmigrant worker. The NAICS code for the school is NAICS 611110 - Elementary or Secondary Schools.
