With this release, the Bureau of the Census and the Bureau of the Economic Analysis are publishing revised U.S. goods and services trade statistics.
Select:
The 1999 unadjusted Census basis goods data were revised to eliminate "carry-over" (that portion of the monthly statistics that arrive too late for inclusion in the transaction month) and to include errata (corrections to the published monthly data). Once these corrections were completed, factors for seasonal adjustments, working day adjustments, and constant dollars were recomputed, and the seasonally adjusted and constant dollar series were revised for 1997, 1998, 1999. The constant dollar series has also been recomputed using 1996 as the base year.
Revisions to the services accounts result from the incorporation of results from BEA's quarterly and annual surveys and from other newly available and updated source data. The estimates of other private services exports include significant revisions to financial services exports for 1997-99 and the estimates of other private services imports include significant revisions to insurance imports for 1998-99. Changes to other private services exports also include improved estimates of expenditures of international organizations in the United States for 1986-99, improved estimates of expenditures of foreign embassies in the United States for 1996-99, and newly developed estimates of expenditures of temporary nonagricultural workers in the United States for 1986-99.
