Subject: AES Commodity Redesign

AES Broadcast  04/01/2004           Broadcast  #  2004017

----------------------------------------------------------------------

TO: AES Software Vendors, Service Centers and Self-Programmers

FROM: Census AES Client Representatives
Customs and Border Protection Client Representatives

The AES test region will be available for testing your interface
software for the commodity redesign starting at 7:00 AM Eastern
Standard Time on April 5, 2004. The implementation of the Commodity
Redesign will occur on June 8,2004.

AES software vendors, service centers and self-programmers need to
contact their client representative to verify that their EDU profile
record is up-to-date prior to making any test transmissions.

When you file your test data, we strongly recommend that you use
real-life export shipment data that is reflective of your individual
company's filings.  The use of this data during the test will allow
you to receive a better idea of how your software will handle the new
business edits in AES. Additionally, as a guide you may use the test
scripts available on the website.

If you will be testing licensable shipments use the following
codes, license and registration numbers.

Bureau of Industry and Security License Information

License Code Test License Number

C30 B191396

With the implementation of the AES Commodity Redesign, there will be
a significant change in the way corrections are performed.  Please
note that it will no longer be acceptable to perform the "Delete" then
"Add" function to make corrections.  Starting June 8, 2004 corrections
must be performed using the "Change" or "Replace" functions.

For the specific details on the new programming requirements, retrieve
the AES technical documentation from the Customs and Border Protection
website at:
