Subject: AES Commodity Redesign

AES Broadcast 04/16/2004 Broadcast # 2004020

----------------------------------------------------------------------

This message is to advise you that the AES Commodity Redesign will be
implemented on June 8, 2004. Once the AES Commodity Redesign is
implemented, the old formats will not be accepted.

The AES system will experience a 72-hour outage in which you will not
be able to file shipments. The outage will take place from
12:01 AM EST June 5 to 06:00 AM EST June 8, 2004. We will provide
further information on how to handle licensable shipments during this
period.

Please be advised that with the implementation of the Commodity
Redesign there are new filing requirements. For example, 99% of the
warning messages have been switched to fatal error messages. We
strongly recommend that you do not delay and begin testing the system
modifications.

Census and Customs representatives are available to assist with
resolving error messages and ensuring your shipments are successfully
accepted. Coming soon on the Foreign Trade Division (FTD) home page
will be frequently asked questions and a fact sheet regarding AES
Commodity Redesign. Stay tuned to the FTD site at http:/www.census.gov/trade

For the specific details on the new programming requirements, retrieve
the AES technical documentation from the Customs and Border Protection
website at http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/export/aes/tech_docs/
