FAQs - General

What types of files are found on this web site?

The files found on this site are of several types. The table below identifies them by extension and then describes their use.

    Extension Description
    HTML
    or
    HTM
    Hypertext Mark-up Language (HTML) is used to write most web pages. A file ending in HTM or HTML can be read by a web browser.
    PDF Portable Document Format (PDF) files are read with the ADOBE Acrobat reader. Go to the Adobe web site and download the Acrobat reader free of charge.
    ZIP ZIP files are compressed using a specific compression method. For more information see the question: Need to know how to use a compressed file?
    WPD WordPerfect document (WPD). A document written in the word processor WordPerfect.
    WK4 Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheet. The spreadsheet file allows you to move around and display the data in the format the user wants. WK4 files can also be opened using other spreadsheet software, such as Excel or Quattro Pro
    TXT

    Text file. These files contain text and no formatting, so when you look at them in a browser, they will look VERY plain. Much like this... assuming you're using Netscape, MSIE, etc. and not a text browser.

2009 Constant Dollar Data
- The Census Bureau identified a processing error that caused incorrect deflators to be applied to the revised data for 2009. The data have been corrected.
