This graph compares U.S. total trade in Goods (Exports plus Imports, on a seasonally adjusted Census basis), using nominal and Real Chained (2005) Dollars. The vertical axis shows total goods trade in billions of dollars. The horizontal axis shows a time series from January 2003 to the present. The two series cross in 2005, reflecting the fact that the real dollar series is based on 2005 prices.
The data for this graph come from Exhibit 5: U.S. Trade in Goods (Seasonally Adjusted), and Exhibit 10: Real Exports and Imports of Goods by Principal End-Use Category of the FT900: U.S. International Trade in Goods and Services, as well as historical versions of these tables.
