A. Missing TIGER/Line Map- Hardin County, IA
Because of a problem with DVD drivers in Windows NT/2000, it appears as if the folder "\maps\Tiger\IA\19083" on the DVD is empty. This folder contains the Census TIGER/Line® 1998
layers for Hardin County, Iowa. Consequently, the MARPLOT® mapping program does not display this map's data. (NOTE: This problem does not affect Windows 95/98 Users).
This problem can be resolved by downloading the file HARDN_IA.EXE. After downloading this file, go to the run menu and select the file and then click OK. This program will present a screen requesting a drive and an folder to extract to. You should specify the drive that you installed the LandView IV software (default is C:) and the folder \LV4 . This program will automatically extract the folder \19083 containing the Hardin County IA map into \LV4.
B. LandView IV Refuses to Run
For those of you using LandView IV on a network you may recall that the file LVMAPS.TXT in the CDMAPS folder, must be modified, as described in the readme.txt (in that same folder) in order for MARPLOT to find the maps on the network. The LVMAPS.TXT has an error in line #41.
It reads:
It should read:
Simply edit the LVMAPS.TXT file, using WordPad or any other text editor, and change that one line. Without this change, MARPLOT will give an error message when it tries to access the Zip Code layer.
Due to a processing error, MARPLOT place polygons were not created for the following independent cities:
Consequently, any queries performed under the "Place" tab in the 1990 Census containing any of the above five cities will not be shown on the map. When mapping the search collection you may encounter a Marplot Error message stating "One or more of the objects to be shown were not found."
Because these independent cities are treated as county equivalents, you can select the appropriate city under the "Counties" tab and then map it that way.
