Running LandView® IV on a Network

rule

The following procedures can be found in the readme.txt located in the Lv4 folder on the user's hard drive. The default is the C: drive - C:\Lv4\Cdmaps\readme.txt.

To run LandView IV on a network, the program files must be installed on each user's hard drive. The data and maps are normally accessed from the CD or DVD. You may, however, copy the data and map files to either a local hard drive, or to a network file server, so that many users can simultaneously access these files.

For Maps:
The file LVMAPS.TXT allows MARPLOT® to locate the map files. To activate this function, modify the file LVMAPS.TXT by replacing the question mark (?) in the first line with the drive letter (and colon) on which the maps have been stored (for example, E:). If you have stored the maps in a MAPS folder at the root of the drive, using the same directory structures that are listed throughout the LVMAPS.TXT file, then no other changes are necessary. If your directory structure is not the same, then you will have to change all references in LVMAPS.TXT from \MAPS\...etc. to the appropriate path name for each line where such a path is listed.

For Data:
The data files are in the LV4 folder on the CD/DVD. These files all have the .LV4 extension. To run on the local hard drive, simply copy the contents of this folder to the same folder where LandView IV has been installed (usually C:\LV4.) To run from a network file server, copy the entire LV4 folder to the drive, using the same folder name LV4.

For the Start Up File:
You must modify the "Start In" parameter of the Windows LandView IV shortcut (installed both on the Desktop and in the Programs section of the Start button). Normally this parameter is set to the CD/DVD drive on the local computer. For file server access, set it to the path where you stored the LV4 folder (example, E:\LV4). For local hard drive access, the "Start In" parameter can be left blank.
