You can now download one or more Tiger/Line 1999 files. Each state folder contains a Counts.txt file and individual county files that are stored in compressed format and are compatible with PK Ware's PK Zip software. Before downloading files, please refer to the README file.
The TIGER/Line files are extracts of selected geographic and cartographic information from the Census Bureau's TIGER (Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing) database. The 1999 TIGER/Line files cover all counties, parishes, boroughs, census geographic areas and equivlalent entities for each state, for the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Pacific Island Areas.
There is one archived (zipped) TIGER/Line file for each county or county equivalent. The file names consist of TGR + the 2-digit state FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) code + the 3-digit county FIPS code i.e. TGR01031.ZIP for Coffee County, Alabama. To find the codes for other states and counties refer to Appendix A of the technical documentation . These documents are in Adobe Acrobat's Portable Document Format (PDF) and require the Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 for viewing. The reader is available free from the Adobe web site. The metadata is in ASCII text format.
Each state folder contains a COUNTSnn.TXT file, where "nn" is the state FIPS code. The COUNTSnn.TXT files
show the counts for the number of records for each record type by county for a state.
If the count for a particular record type is 0, then that record type does not exist for that county.
All 1999 TIGER/Line files are available for download.
