Suppose you are interested in using LandView III to calculate a 1990 Census population estimate for a radius within the Texarkana, TX-Texarkana, AR MSA which includes Bowie County, TX and Miller County, AR.
You would first obtain Disc 11 - United States Summary CD-ROM. This disc provides both data and most map layers for the entire country. (With the exception of the District of Columbia and Delaware, Disc 11 does not contain the TIGER/Line map layers which show detailed census block groups, miscellaneous, places, railroads, major roads, minor roads, shoreline and water features.) This disc allows you to calculate the population for any radius within the United States. If you would like to see the TIGER/Line map layers for the study area, you will need to either copy the TIGER/Line map layer files from the local discs or download them from RTK Net.
On the local CD-ROMs, the map files are contained in subdirectories organized by FIPS State and County codes. For this example, Bowie County, TX the TIGER/Line map layer files would be found in the directory "48\037" on Disc 7. This subdirectory should be copied as a subdirectory to the "\LV3" directory that was created on your hard drive by the LandView III installation program. By placing the map folders under the \LV3 directory, the LandView III program will automatically find these map files and add them to the MARPLOT map list. If you download the map files from RTK.NET, you would first unzip the map files and then move the resultant map folder to the \LV3 directory.
