Data Field Listing Applicability Definition
State Code All listings Two digit code used to identify the state a governmental unit is situated in. This ID is assigned alphabetically (01 being Alabama, etc.)
Type Code All listings One digit code used to designate type of government:
  0 = State
  1 = County
  2 = Municipal
  3 = Township
  4 = Special District
  5 = School District or Educational Service Agency
County Code All listings Three digit code specifying the county area a government is situated in
Unit Code All listings Three digit unique identifier for governments of the same type, in the same state, and in the same county area
Supp Code Local dependent and state dependent listings Three digit unique identifier for dependent agencies associated with a particular governmental unit
Name All listings Name of governmental unit
Political Description County, municipal, and township listings political description of the governmental unit(e.g., city, town, village)
Function Special District listing special district primary purpose description
Function Code Special District listing 2 digit code used to designate function
Title All, except Special District listing official title of addressee
Address1 All, except Special District listing first line of address
Address2 All, except Special District listing second line of address
City All, except Special District listing mailing address city
State AB All listings mailing address state abbreviation
Zip All, except Special District listing mailing address zip code
Population County, municipal, and township listings 1996 population estimate
EL-SEC Enrollment school district, state dependent, and local dependent listings 1996 enrollment
