1/ Data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), Survey of Current Business. The BEA publishes estimates of income and expenditures in chained 1992 dollars. The author used a factor equal to the 1996 value expressed in 1996 dollars divided by the 1996 value expressed in chained 1992 dollars to convert pre-1996 estimates into estimates expressed in 1996 dollars.
