    • Establishes a Federal Privacy Board. Statistical data, such as census records, are explicitly exempted from the provisions of the privacy act.
  • An Act of December 23, 1975 (P.L. 94-171) Download PDF [512KB PDF]
    • Provides for the transmittal of population data to the states and localities within one year of the decennial census date for use in redrawing congressional and other legislative districts.
  • Americans of Spanish Origins Social Statistics Act (June 16, 1976) (P.L. 94-311) Download PDF [106KB PDF]
    • Joint Resolution that the Department of Commerce begin to publish social statistics about persons of Hispanic origin.
  • An Act of October 5, 1978 (P.L. 95-416) Download PDF [535KB PDF]**
    • Provides for the transfer of census returns to the National Archives. Mandates that those returns are kept confidential until 72 years after the census to which they pertain.
  • An Act Making Appropriations for the Department of Commerce and other agencies (November 28, 1983) (P.L. 98-166) Download PDF [1.59MB PDF]**
    • Along with providing appropriations for fiscal year 1983, this law also authorizes the Census Bureau to share addresses with the United States Postal Service to improve its address lists.
