Summary of Changes to 2011 Data

National Tables affected: C-08-AO, C-08-OO, & C-08-RO

An error was found in the October 23, 2012 release of the National tables. Data for 'Households with three generations' under 'Persons Other Than Spouse or Children' were incorrectly calculated. The data were corrected in the Excel and American FactFinder versions as of December 13, 2012.

Metro and National Tables affected: C-02-AH

An error was found in the October 23, 2012 release of this table. Data for 'Telephone available' under 'Selected Amenities' were erroneously denoted with an (X), meaning ‘not applicable,’ instead of actual values in the 'Total housing units' and 'Total, Year-round' columns. The data were corrected in the Excel version as of April 18, 2013. American FactFinder reflects this correction as of May 16, 2013.

Metro Tables affected: C-00-AH, C-01-AH, C-02-AH, & C-03-AH

A weighting error was found in the February 28, 2013 release of the metro area tables. Normally, in the total housing unit count, both occupied and vacant units are counted, except the following if they are vacant:

(a) tents, caves, boats, railroad cars, and the like;
(b) structures intended for nonresidential use;
(c) units used for business storage (storage of personal furniture does not disqualify a unit); and
(d) units unfit for human habitation (roof, walls, windows, or doors no longer protect the interior from weather, or there is positive evidence, such as a sign on the house or block, that the unit is to be demolished or is condemned).

Such units should be given zero weights since they are not considered housing units when vacant. The error occurred because these units were assigned a weight greater than zero, resulting in a minor overestimate of the number of total housing units. All columns, except the three occupied housing unit columns (Total, Owner, Renter) were affected. The data were corrected in the Excel version as of April 18, 2013. American FactFinder reflects this correction as of May 16, 2013.
