School district estimates posted on this site were revised as of April
26th, 1999 to comply with corrected geographical boundaries for school
districts in the following ten states: Arkansas, California, Illinois,
Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, New Jersey, and New
York. Only these states were affected by the revision.

The school districts for which estimates are provided are based on the
U.S. Census Bureau's 1997 school district mapping project during which
we gathered boundaries from each state's department of education. The
list should reflect all school districts as of June 30, 1996. The
Census Bureau received comments from the states regarding
transcription errors that occurred during the mapping project; this
comment period ended on March 22, 1999. The revisions for the states
mentioned above were formed on the basis of these comments.
