The U.S. Census Bureau released revisions today to the monthly data for January 1992 through March 2008 of the “Manufacturers’ Shipments, Inventories, and Orders” (M3) survey. The Benchmark Report contains revisions from January 2004 through December 2007. This Benchmark Release contains revised monthly data for January 2008 through March 2008. These revisions reflect:

• benchmarking the shipments and inventory data to the 2006 Annual Survey of Manufactures (ASM) data;

• adjusting new orders to be consistent with the benchmarked shipments and inventory data;

• correcting monthly data for late receipts, reclassification of reported data, and revisions to previously reported data; and

• updating the seasonal adjustment factors for all series.

Data in the April 2008 Advance Report on Durable Goods scheduled for release on May 28, 2008, at 8:30 A.M. EDT and the full report scheduled for release on June 3, 2008, at 10:00 A.M. EDT will be consistent with the data contained in the report issued today.
