IMPS allows persons with little or no computer experience to contribute to the data processing operation. In September 1997, IPC released IMPS 4.1 the first Windows version of IMPS. Actually, it is a combination of the IMPS 3.1 for DOS and the first several modules of what will eventually be a complete Windows version.

In May this year, IPC posted the first released of CSPro, which combines the computational power of the Integrated System for Survey Analysis (ISSA) with the user friendly features of IMPS.

IMPS 3.1

Includes the following software modules:

• Data Dictionary - This module allows for the definition of the characteristics of the data file(s) to be processed. This definition, which is stored in computer, is used by the data entry, editing, and tabulation components of IMPS to access data files.

• Data Entry - CENTRY is a screen-oriented, menu-driven package for developing data entry applications. Specifically it can be used for entering, editing, verifying and modifying data, and for collecting statistics on data entry operator performance. CENTRY executor can run on a 2-diskette drive system with no hard disk.

• Editing - CONCOR is a package for the rapid identification and correction of invalid and inconsistent data using any editing techniques which are considered appropriate. CONCOR can be used independently or in conjunction with CENTRY. It requires CA-Realia COBOL.

• Tabulation - QUICKTAB is a menu-driven package for the rapid production of frequency distributions and cross- tabulations.

  CENTS is a package for tabulating, summarizing, and displaying statistical tables for publication. It requires CA-Realia COBOL.

• Data Dissemination - Table Retrieval System (TRS) is a menu-driven package to easily select, retrieve, display, and print statistical tables. It is a tool for electronic data dissemination.

• Variance Calculation - CENVAR is a variance calculation package which produces reliability measures for estimates from stratified multistage sample surveys or simpler survey designs.

• Operational Control - CENTRACK is a management and control package to help census managers monitor, control, and track the various operations necessary between receipt of questionnaires from the field and data entry.

• IBM PC or compatible microcomputer

• 640K bytes of memory

• IMPS occupies 8Mb in standard installation

• CA-Realia COBOL compiler 3.0 or higher

IMPS 4.1

It includes the following software modules:

• Data Dictionary - Enhanced version of IMPS 3.1. It supports negative values, hierarchical record types, and descriptive labels.

• Cross Tabulation - Enhanced version of IMPS 3.1 QUICKTAB. User can cross-tabulate up to four items, generate tabulations across different record types, select items with multiple occurrences and negative values, and can tabulate multiple data files in a single run.

• Table Viewer - Allows user to inspect, print and save the results of Cross Tabulations.

• Text Viewer - Allows user to inspect text and data files of indefinite length and up to 30,000 characters wide.

• Map Viewer - Allows user to generate thematic maps to see the data spatially. User can print or copy these maps into a document.

• IMPS 3.1 - Includes the rest of the IMPS 3.1 DOS version.

• Pentium processor

• 16 MB of RAM

• SVGA monitor (PCI or VESA graphics)

• Mouse

• 16 MB hard drive space (5 MB if IMPS 3.1 is already installed)

• Microsoft Windows 95
