Farm Census

U.S. Census Bureau employees tabulate data from the 1935 Census of Agriculture. Agricultural inquiries were first collected in the 1810 Census when a single question asked if members of the household were engaged in "agricultural pursuits." More detailed data were collected in 1840 and agricultural inquiries became a regular part of the decennial census from 1850 to 1920, after which a census of agriculture was conducted every 5 years.
