The U.S. Census Bureau is the premier source of information about the American people and the economy. More than just numbers, this information shapes important policy decisions that help improve the nation's social and economic conditions.
In an effort to increase public awareness and the use of the 2000 Census data in classrooms, the U.S. Census Bureau created the Census In Schools Program. Over the past year, the Bureau has recognized the need to expand the existing program to also include its demographic and economic data.
The U.S. Census Bureau's Lesson Plan Contest, designed to solicit ideas from teachers in order to generate additional teaching materials, will utilize Bureau statistics and assist teachers in meeting the national, state or local content standards.
