See our Facts for Features web site regarding Veterans Day 2009 (November 11) to read more about the below facts and much more! Here are just a few facts about veterans in 2008:

  • There were 23.2 million military veterans in the United States overall.
  • There were 50,000 living veterans in 2008 who served during the Vietnam Era and both Gulf War eras.
  • There were 92,000 living veterans who served during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam Era.
  • There were 5 states with 1 million or more veterans in 2008.
  • In 2008, 26 percent of veterans 25 and older had at least a bachelor's degree, and 91 percent of veterans 25 and older had a high school diploma or higher.
