Subject content: The Profiles of General Demographic Characteristics contain the 100-percent data compiled from the Census 2000 questions asked of all people and about every housing unit. Population items include population, sex, age, race, Hispanic or Latino, household relationship, household type and group quarters; housing items include occupancy, housing tenure, and average household size of owner-occupied/renter-occupied units. The profiles include a total of 71 population and 25 housing data.

Areas covered in the National Summary Profile:

• 355 metropolitan areas, including consolidated metropolitan statistical areas (shows entire metro areas)
• Non-metropolitan areas
• Four regions
• Nine census divisions
• 50 states; Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico
• 651 American Indian and Alaska Native Areas
• 61 Hawaiian Home Lands
• 435 districts of the 106th Congress

File format & software: Portable Document Format (.PDF). Files also available in ASCII at the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) site.

Geography: Separate profiles for each of the areas identified above. In addition, there is a standard one-page profile for the following areas (over 40,000 in all): U.S., states, counties, county subdivisions, places, consolidated cities, metropolitan statistical areas (state part), consolidated metropolitan statistical areas (state part), primary metropolitan statistical areas (state part), congressional districts, American Indian Areas, Alaska Native Areas, and Hawaiian Home Lands. These profiles are available on the Web or for sale in print-on-demand state packages.
