National and State Curriculum Standards

State and Territorial Departments of Education
Most states and territories have developed comprehensive curriculum standards. If you have questions about the standards in your state or any other state contact its department of education.

Mid-continent Regional Educational Laboratory (McREL).
McREL is one of 10 regional educational laboratories sponsored by the Office of Educational Research and Improvement (OERI) of the U.S. Department of Education.

National Council of Teachers of Mathematics
The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics hosts the Illuminations website. This site is devoted to developing principles and standards for mathematics instruction developed and written by experts in the field.

Center for Civic Education
The Center for Civic Education has developed a series of standards for civics education in grades K-12.

National Council on Economic Education
The National Council on Economic Education has developed curriculum standards on economics with achievement benchmarks for Grades 4, 8 and 12.

National Center for History in the Schools
The National Center for History in the Schools has developed subject matter and critical-thinking standards in history for grades K-12.

National Geographic Society
The National Geographic Society "Geography for Life" program has developed a set of general standards of geographic education that are applicable to all grade levels.
