Notes:
Everyone is familiar with the 50 States. The District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico are treated as state equivalents.
In some Census 2000 and Economic Census products you will see data for regions and divisions. The Census Bureau divides the Nation into four regions and nine divisions, composed of groups of states.
Here we see a map displaying the Census regions and divisions of the United States.
The South region is divided into the South Atlantic, East South Central, and West South Central divisions.
The Northeast region is divided into New England and the Middle Atlantic divisions.
The Midwest region is divided into the West North Central and East North Central divisions.
The West region is divided into the Mountain and Pacific divisions.
Now we’ll take a look at Metropolitan Areas.
