The largest percentage of Hispanic people resided in California; in 2000, California had 31 percent of the country’s Hispanic population.

Texas had the second largest percentage with 19 percent.

The top 5 states - California, Texas, New York, Florida and Illinois - accounted for 70 percent of the Hispanic population living in the United States.

Combined, these 10 states were home to 82.5 percent of the total United States Hispanic population.
