What do the new guidelines mean for the Census 2000 data on race and ethnicity?
The changes to the way race and ethnicity are collected make for improved and more accurate information.
And allowing people to report more than one race adds to our knowledge about racial diversity of the United States.
It also means that Census 2000 race data are not directly comparable with data from 1990 and previous censuses.
